About RRB ALP Recruitment 2026
Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) conduct Assistant Loco Pilot recruitment for various railway zones across India under the Ministry of Railways. ALP is one of the most popular technical railway jobs due to its salary structure, job security, promotion opportunities, and nationwide recruitment scale.
Assistant Loco Pilots work under the supervision of Loco Pilots and are responsible for assisting in train operations, locomotive maintenance support, signaling observation, and railway safety procedures.

Educational Qualification:
- Matriculation / SSLC plus ITI from recognized institutions of NCVT/SCVT in relevant trades
OR - Diploma / Degree in Engineering in relevant disciplines as prescribed in the notification.

Eligibility
Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess the prescribed educational and technical qualification before the closing date of application submission.
Accepted qualifications include:
- ITI in relevant trades approved by NCVT/SCVT
- Diploma in Engineering
- Degree in Engineering in relevant disciplines
Only candidates possessing eligible qualifications as mentioned in the official notification should apply.
Age Limit (as on 01 July 2026):
Minimum Age: 18 Years
Maximum Age: 30 Years
Reservation & Relaxation:
Upper age relaxation is applicable as per Government rules:
- SC/ST – 5 Years
- OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) – 3 Years
- PwBD – 10 Years
- Ex-Servicemen – As per rules
Additional relaxation may also be applicable for railway staff and other eligible categories mentioned in the official notification.
PwBD Eligibility: PwBD reservation is applicable for eligible benchmark disability categories as per Railway recruitment rules. Medical fitness standards for ALP posts are strict due to operational railway duties.
Candidates must satisfy A-1 medical standards prescribed for Assistant Loco Pilot posts.
Eligibility Note: Candidates who are awaiting final educational results are not eligible to apply for RRB ALP Recruitment 2026.

Selection Process
The selection process includes:
- CBT-1
- CBT-2
- Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
- Document Verification
- Medical Examination
CBT-1 will be qualifying in nature and shortlisted candidates will appear for CBT-2.
There will be negative marking of 1/3rd mark for every incorrect answer in CBT-1 and CBT-2. No negative marking will be applicable in CBAT.
👉 Candidates shortlisted for CBT-2 will be selected RRB-wise based on merit.
👉 Final selection will depend on CBT-2, CBAT, document verification, and medical fitness.

Computer Based Aptitude Test (CBAT)
Candidates qualifying CBT-2 will appear for CBAT, which is mandatory for ALP posts.

👉 Candidates must qualify in each aptitude test battery separately.
