The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has invited online applications for the Combined Graduate Level Examination (CGL) 2026. The examination is conducted every year for recruitment to various Group B and Group C posts under Ministries, Departments, Constitutional Bodies, Tribunals, and Government Organizations of the Government of India.
For the 2026 recruitment cycle, SSC has reported approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies. Through this examination, candidates can compete for positions in administration, taxation, accounts, audit, investigation, statistics, enforcement, and clerical services across different Central Government departments.

Examination Name: Combined Graduate Level Examination, 2026 (CGL 2026)
Vacancies: SSC has reported approximately 12,256 tentative vacancies under the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2026. Final post-wise and category-wise vacancy details will be released separately by the Commission.
Educational Qualification: Candidates must possess a Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University or Institution. For Junior Statistical Officer (JSO), applicants must have either secured at least 60% marks in Mathematics at the Class 12 level or studied Statistics as a subject during Graduation. Certain posts such as Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer also list professional finance and accounting qualifications as desirable.
Age Requirement: The age limit varies by post and ranges from 18 to 32 years as on 01 August 2026. Most Group B posts carry an upper age limit of 30 years, while Junior Statistical Officer is open up to 32 years. Several Group C posts including Auditor, Accountant, Tax Assistant, Postal Assistant, and Sorting Assistant carry an upper age limit of 27 years.
Pay Scale: The recruitment covers posts under Pay Level-4 to Pay Level-8 of the 7th Central Pay Commission. Depending on the post, the pay scale ranges from ₹25,500 to ₹1,51,100 along with applicable allowances and service benefits.
Reservation & Relaxation: SC/ST candidates are eligible for 5 years of age relaxation, while OBC candidates receive 3 years. PwBD candidates are eligible for age relaxation ranging from 10 to 15 years depending on category. Additional relaxation is available for Ex-Servicemen and other eligible categories. Reservation for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities is applicable for identified posts covered under the recruitment.

SSC CGL 2026 includes recruitment to various Group B and Group C posts under Ministries, Departments, Constitutional Bodies, and Government Organizations of India.
At Pay Level-8, the examination includes Assistant Audit Officer and Assistant Accounts Officer posts under the Indian Audit & Accounts Department (C&AG). Pay Level-7 includes Assistant Section Officer positions in the Central Secretariat Service, Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Railways, Intelligence Bureau, AFHQ, and other Government departments. Inspector of Income Tax, Inspector (Central Excise), Inspector (Preventive Officer), Inspector (Examiner), Assistant Enforcement Officer, and Sub-Inspector in CBI are also included under this level.
Pay Level-6 covers posts such as Executive Assistant, Research Assistant, Divisional Accountant, Sub-Inspector in NIA, Sub-Inspector/Junior Intelligence Officer in NCB, Junior Statistical Officer, Statistical Investigator Grade-II, Office Superintendent, and Section Head.
Group C positions are available under Pay Level-5 and Pay Level-4 and include Auditor, Accountant, Junior Accountant, Postal Assistant, Sorting Assistant, Senior Secretariat Assistant, Senior Administrative Assistant, Tax Assistant, and Sub-Inspector in the Central Bureau of Narcotics.

SSC CGL Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
The selection process consists of Tier-I and Tier-II Computer Based Examinations followed by Document Verification.
Tier-I serves as the screening stage and includes General Intelligence & Reasoning, General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, and English Comprehension. Tier-II acts as the main examination and evaluates candidates through sections on Mathematical Abilities, Reasoning & General Intelligence, English Language & Comprehension, General Awareness, and Computer Knowledge.
Certain specialized posts such as Junior Statistical Officer and Assistant Audit Officer require additional papers. For some departments, candidates may also be required to satisfy prescribed physical, medical, or departmental standards before final appointment.
